In a 2024 study, researchers looked at mortality data for some common and screenable cancers in the United States. Using modeling, they estimated how prevention, screening, and treatment interventions have affected the number of averted deaths from 1975–2020. They found that of the estimated 5.94 million averted deaths, 80% (4.75 million) were attributed to prevention and screening efforts alone.
